Succisa
Succisa is the global name for 5 villages: Pollina, Colla, Barca, Poderi e Villavecchia. Suburb of Pontremoli, Succisa is located in a wonderful mountain scenery under Passo della Cisa. Succisa and Lucca pretend they both to be the place of birth of Saint Zita. Altough, the town of Tuscany recognizes Saint Zita’s father was from Succisa. Symbols of Succisa can be two: chestnut-tree,( king of woods near Succisa) and mushrooms, famous to have I.G.P. quality brand.
Among typical products, after mushrooms, we can find honey,hunting animals,and all typical cooking, shared with Lunigiana, but made unic by influence of Emilia and Liguria.
Not much inhabited (210 inhabitants in April 2007) Succisa is one of places more frequented in Tusco-emilian Appennino. Attractives are: IGP mushroom reserve, managed by Cooperativa Giogallo; a lot of fountains, located in every place of village, that give good water; Trattoria Ferrari that gives possibility to taste delicious typical cooking without expensive prices and sellS( only authorized) the famous Amaro di Succisa. More, Trattoria Ferrari organizes in summer wonderful dancing nights; lovers of sport can follow the adventures of local football team ( playing in Terza Categoria League); variety of views. An useful service is even Alimentari Francesca, who sells foods and products for house and hygiene. Alimentari Francesca is even collecting point of mushrooms and chestnuts. Tourists can visit SS. Felicita and Perpetua church, Saint Zita Chapel, rests of old castle, sport structures ( for football, tennis and bowls), the “ Maestà” ( primitive altars dedicated to Virgin Mary, oldly located in paths) and, naturally, the near woods ( with Roncacci refugee, Pian della Fagiola refugee and “ Casone del Madro”) where humans and nature mix each other in a surreal atmosphere.
